Aoba has a life before he becomes anyone’s love interest: a job in a junk shop, friendships, a temper and desires he does not always understand. The men around him offer familiarity, friction, tenderness and domination, pulling at his hopes for a quiet life. Choosing between them changes both who he wants and how much cruelty the story asks you to accept.

The vivid cyberpunk art and electronic music give street gangs, virtual-reality battles and corporate manipulation a seductive setting. They also frame sexual assault, gore and psychological distress. The game’s brighter colors are no promise of a gentle romance. Its warmest intimacy is affecting; its weakest relationships expect attraction to cover gaps the writing has barely acknowledged.

## Distinct men, uneven chemistry

Koujaku’s history with Aoba gives the childhood-friend romance a head start. Beneath the flirtatious hairdresser persona, his protective warmth has years of friendship to draw on. Their affection feels more grounded than the quicker attachments to strangers, though the script’s awkward excuses for wanting another man can get in the way of the chemistry.

Noiz’s piercings help, but his emotional isolation gives the attraction somewhere to go. Bluntness and confrontation gradually reveal vulnerability, inviting Aoba to understand him as well as desire him. Clear’s eager devotion and peculiar, gas-masked manner offer a gentler pull. Japanese voices make these different approaches to Aoba expressive enough to matter beyond character design.

The romances stumble when a personal crisis becomes a shortcut to commitment. Aoba helps a man confront trauma, and suddenly the relationship has advanced further than their time together warrants. Appealing personalities make the leap tempting. They cannot fill in all the missing steps between concern, desire and love.

## Expressive sex, frustrating cutaways

The sex scenes work through illustrated CGs, changing frames and fully voiced Japanese performances. Expressions, dialogue and vulnerability do much of the erotic work. At their best, the encounters give the relationship a welcome moment of closeness after so much danger. The men remain striking when the clothes come off, and their voices give the drawings warmth.

Pans, zooms and transitions enliven the illustrations, but sustained sexual animation is not a major feature. Some encounters also cut away to the surroundings. After a long stretch of reading toward a particular partner, a view of the furniture can feel like a peculiar reward. Restoring the explicit art does not guarantee an uninterrupted look at it.

The variety comes mainly from different partners, relationship dynamics and emotional outcomes. Sex occupies a modest part of the larger story, so the payoff depends heavily on caring about the man involved. Recollection lets you revisit unlocked intimate scenes, and the CG gallery keeps discovered artwork. During the encounters themselves, you follow a directed, voiced sequence; narrative choices provide the control.

## Coercion reaches beyond the bad endings

Mink’s imposing presence and criminal background promise dangerous attraction. His route struggles to make the resulting relationship believable. Physical and sexual abuse give way to affection with too little convincing repair, and his tragic history explains his motives better than it explains Aoba’s attachment. The problem is the writing’s leap from harm to intimacy, which leaves the romance emotionally hollow.

Pursuing good endings will not spare you all of this material. Attempted sexual assault appears before the romantic routes separate, and coercion also enters paths with happier destinations. Bad endings can combine sex with extreme violence and the loss of Aoba’s autonomy. Seeing the story through and collecting every outcome demand different levels of tolerance for that cruelty.

Some of the horror gives force to Aoba’s struggle with control and exposes the men’s capacity for harm. Elsewhere, cruelty supplies a shock before the romance hurriedly resets. That uneven treatment matters as much as the dark content itself. Tender scenes have their place here, but affection does not adequately account for the damage surrounding them.

## Consequential choices, familiar journeys

Early decisions help determine which man’s route opens. Later, unusual choices and small game-like sequences affect the outcome. Your responses therefore matter, though the link between a casual remark and access to a romance can be obscure. A guide may serve your desire for a particular partner better than simply answering as Aoba seems inclined to.

Much of each route remains fixed reading, and several follow a familiar journey through danger, a partner’s secret and a confrontation. Different trauma and sex give those journeys individual stakes, but the repeated structure makes subsequent routes predictable. Skipping read text helps with familiar dialogue; recurring game sequences can still interrupt the return trip.

A final route unlocks after the initial four good endings and brings more of Aoba’s history into focus. It rewards completion with revelations beyond another set of CGs. It also requires following romances that may already have worn out your patience. The virtual fights in Rhyme add texture to the setting without making this an action game.

## Choose the adult edition before starting

In October 2026, Steam’s regular US price was $19.99 for the censored Windows release. Sexual situations and voices remain, but explicit artwork is cropped and adult material edited. JAST’s official restoration patch was listed at $3.99, bringing the regular total to $23.98. This review covers the adult presentation restored by that separately purchased, manually installed patch.

Make the edition decision before settling into a playthrough. JAST’s patch guide warns that unpatched Steam saves cannot be used after patching and that normal Steam achievement unlocking is affected. The separate JAST standalone game was listed at $24.99 in October 2026. Discounts and regional offers vary; either base package is a separate purchase, so you do not need both.

The original game is complete. Re:connect’s follow-up stories and re:code’s console changes belong to separate releases. There is respectable value here in voiced male romance and alternate outcomes, though the repeated structure and uneven chemistry limit it. Readers seeking plentiful sex or broad freedom over Aoba’s relationships will get less from the purchase than those attached to its particular men.

## Verdict

Choose DRAMAtical Murder for Koujaku’s familiar warmth, Clear’s tenderness and the bite of Noiz’s attention. Their personalities, Japanese performances and striking art can make the long approach to sex worth it. The recommendation weakens whenever a route mistakes a traumatic revelation for enough groundwork to fall in love; Mink’s abuse is the most serious failure. Repeated story beats and sexual cutaways add their own frustrations. At the October 2026 regular Steam-plus-patch price of $23.98, this is a worthwhile purchase for readers drawn to these men and comfortable with dark material. Expect memorable intimacy interrupted by some very clumsy storytelling.

### Will the adult patch work with my Steam saves and achievements?

JAST’s patch guide warns that unpatched Steam saves become unusable after patching and that normal Steam achievement unlocking is affected. Achievements you have already earned remain. Choose your edition before beginning a playthrough you want to keep.

### Are the sex scenes animated or voiced in English?

No. Attempted sexual assault appears in the common story, and coercion also occurs on romance paths with happier endings. Mink’s route is particularly abusive. Extreme bad endings add further violence and loss of autonomy.

No. This review covers the completed original game in its English Windows Steam release with the official paid adult patch. Re:connect and re:code are separate releases.
