A vampire and a succubus want college student Theo for more than his company. Halloween gives them an excuse to meet; a magical reprieve gives him a chance to survive. Night One gets an erotic charge from that imbalance. Being wanted is flattering until the women wanting you might also kill you, and sex, blood and supernatural trouble are tangled together from the start.

Jan and Anna's conversations are the main attraction. They already have a relationship, complete with teasing, jealousy and sore spots, so Theo walks into something messier than a choice between two conquests. The game can be tender and cheerfully filthy. It also gets corny, leans on convenient plotting and gives you surprisingly little say in where this date goes. The women are easier to fall for than the story's insistence on keeping you with them.

## Two monsters worth getting to know

Jan has the sharper edge: confidence, a cruel smile and the possibility that seduction could turn dangerous. Getting her flustered gives that swagger a welcome crack. Anna's warmth and unease about her own hunger make her more interesting than a succubus who is simply available on demand. Both women have desires that complicate their appeal, giving the sex something to work with beyond a pair of monster costumes.

Their competitions over special skills do much of the flirting. Jealousy, teasing and flashes of insecurity show how well they know each other; their closeness makes joining the date feel more intimate. Theo earns glimpses behind their performances, and his kindness helps the romance along. His convenient knack for satisfying them is less convincing. When he seems to have the answer to every need, the emotional work starts to look too easy.

The dialogue is earnest and sometimes corny. That can make an affectionate exchange charming, but long explanations and jokes that keep circling drain the tension. Monster lore earns its place when it clarifies what Jan and Anna need or fear. Watching them disagree, hesitate or drop the act is much more seductive than hearing another explanation of how their world works.

## Expressive sex, uneven staging

Night One's free Steam release includes nudity and explicit sex scenes. No separate adult patch or paid scene unlock is listed. The encounters unfold through illustrated CGs, descriptive writing and selected voiced moments, with expressions and scene changes carrying much of the action. This is a reading-heavy erotic visual novel; there is little physical interaction for the player to direct.

The hand-drawn art suits these women. Faces matter as much as boobs: embarrassment and sudden confidence give intimate moments a different flavor, even when the staging is simple. A blush can sell a scene that an awkward sprite slide nearly spoils. Modest movement and conspicuous transitions put a ceiling on the polish, so come for expressive illustrated sex rather than lavish animation.

Voice acting covers selected dialogue and intimate material, with stretches of silent reading between performances. The V2 update added Jan voice options, more audio and sound-mixing changes. The voices help establish personality, though switching between voiced and unvoiced lines can break the flow. Familiar stock music can make a personal moment feel borrowed, too. The art holds the mood more reliably than the audio.

## The time loop keeps you on script

Death and retry make mistakes part of the date. A dangerous answer becomes tempting when you can rewind its consequences, and the premise takes some of the anxiety out of choosing badly. Too often, though, failure means going back to supply the answer the story wants. Alternative exchanges and outcomes exist within scenes, but the evening has a firm destination.

That restriction matters to the sex and romance. You can watch Jan and Anna open up without having much control over the relationship's direction. Consequential decisions take time to arrive, and repeating an exchange until you find the acceptable response is a thin substitute for choosing an intimacy you actually want. The time loop gives the fiction a clever hook; as a choice system, it too often turns curiosity into correction.

The affection sits beside predation, killing and non-consensual material in bad outcomes. These are part of the fantasy's danger, and growing sympathetic to the women does not make the coercion disappear. The mixture of affectionate comedy and threatening sexual appetite gives Night One bite. Convenient rescues and coincidences weaken it: the plot makes desire feel dangerous, then too readily arranges a way out.

## A free chapter with unfinished business

Scene replay and character selection let you return to material already encountered, while the later fast-forward feature makes revisiting the story easier. Those are useful conveniences in a compact erotic chapter. Another run can reveal different dialogue or a missed scene, but the narrow choice system gives you little reason to expect an extensive separate romance with each woman.

Night One completes this evening while leaving the larger ritual and relationships to later installments. At the October 2026 check, the separate paid Night Two cost $9.99 before discounts on US Steam and included Night One in full. Its optional $2.99 art book belongs to Night Two; it is not a purchase required to unlock this free game's sex scenes.

Night Three had no announced release date at that check, so the free entry still asks you to invest in a romance awaiting its conclusion. Steam lists Windows, macOS and Linux, and the developer also offers desktop and browser versions on itch.io. The free Steam desktop release is the edition assessed here; those listings alone do not establish identical features or performance across versions.

## Verdict

Try Love Sucks: Night One for Jan and Anna: their affection, rivalry and vulnerability make the illustrated sex feel personal, and the free chapter delivers a complete first evening. Expressive art and playful monster desire carry it through some clumsy writing and uneven audio. The romance is less satisfying when it asks for a decision, then rewinds until you give the approved answer. That limits both agency and replay value. The pair's chemistry is worth meeting them for; anyone wanting to shape the relationship, or see its wider story concluded, should temper their expectations.
