Jack gets his next intelligence assignment in a strip club, where a dancer competes with the briefing for his attention. It is a neat introduction to the fantasy: booze, boobs and one more chance for a washed-up action hero to save Los Angeles. Unrated exposes a little more skin, and the collision between military urgency and Jack's wandering attention supplies some good, stupid comedy.
That joke has more staying power than the attraction. Laura, Jack's former lover, gives the rescue mission a personal connection, but their shared history does much of the work. The script happily indulges his lechery and does little to make the women compelling partners. Affection for cheap thrillers becomes the main reason to follow the mission.
What the Unrated cut adds
The clearest addition is in the opening strip club: dancers are topless in Unrated where the standard release uses covered footage. The original production filmed alternative cuts, and this edition restores adult material alongside the movie's profanity and violence. The edition distinction matters when buying, but the sexual payoff remains modest. Jack's encounters are brief, sleazy escapades, with little space for anticipation or intimacy.
Live performers give the flirtation an immediate physical presence. A glance or a knowingly ridiculous line can do plenty, especially when Jack's inflated opinion of himself is the joke. The writing rarely gives the women equal room to hold our interest. They mostly supply temptation or plot stakes, and Laura's history with Jack cannot compensate for the thin treatment of desire, trust and reciprocal chemistry.
Choices steer Jack through the movie

Short prompts appear during the footage and let you choose Jack's response. He can listen to a briefing, chase a distraction or take different approaches to danger. Branches give the movie some welcome comic unpredictability, because Jack's decisions can produce different scenes. The sex and action are already filmed and framed; the pleasure comes from steering his behavior and seeing where it lands him.
Terse choice labels can obscure a fatal mistake, which turns curiosity into trial and error. Some sexual distractions lead to dead ends, while fiddly inputs make timed decisions needlessly awkward. Unskippable clips then require substantial repeat viewing before another choice. With little courtship to build on, the return often amounts to another gag, disaster or brief glimpse of nudity. Learning the branches takes more patience than those rewards deserve.
Swagger carries a patchy thriller

Timothy Bottoms gives Jack his swagger, with Daniel Roebuck and Musetta Vander adding recognizable faces to the cast. The performances commit fully to grand threats and outsized reactions, and the thriller's straight-faced treatment of its own nonsense is a big part of the comedy. Krueger's virus scheme keeps the chase moving. Jack's dialogue and sexual bravado have more life than the rescue plot, which offers limited emotional depth.
Restoration does not make the footage young again. Soft detail, uneven video and rough audio give it archival character, but also reduce the clarity and sensual appeal of the intimate moments. The optional virtual CRT frame suits the material, and fullscreen options are available. Bottoms' newly recorded narration helps connect the story, though gaps in continuity remain. The thinly written encounters still struggle to suggest convincing desire.
Buying the right cut
At the October 2026 check, GOG listed the completed, DRM-free Windows Unrated release at a regular US price of $14.99. That standalone purchase includes the adult footage. The standard game and console releases are separate offers, so owning one does not establish access to this cut. The purchase covers the restored movie and its alternate outcomes.
Alternate branches and endings provide reasons to revisit it, but repeated clips add time faster than they add sexual interest. The stronger argument for owning it is historical: a canceled Jaguar-era production finally exists as a finished, playable game. That rescue is worth appreciating. A night spent rummaging through B-movie history has a clear appeal here; sustained arousal is harder to come by.
Verdict

American Hero Unrated is worth a look for lovers of rescued B-movies, especially those amused by real actors treating a foolish thriller with such conviction. The topless footage makes Unrated the relevant cut for adult readers, but the encounters offer little heat or intimacy. Weak chemistry, sparse nudity and tedious branch hunting leave the erotic appeal thin. The $14.99 regular US price recorded in October 2026 buys an unusual piece of gaming history; it is poor value for anyone chiefly seeking sex or control over an encounter. Jack's sleaze earns a few laughs. Rewatching it for another brief reward is harder to enjoy.
