City of Broken Dreamers makes the bounty-hunter fantasy seductive through the women around it. Katie, a doctor with a backbone, and Ellen, a familiar contact whose trust matters, have lives that extend beyond the next sex scene. Their work, history and worries give the protagonist something to respond to besides a generous cup size. Attraction gets more interesting when a character has something to lose.
The polished cyberpunk art sets a high bar that the sex animations do not always clear. Book One is good at building a mood and making the next encounter desirable. Once clothes come off, short loops and familiar staging can make the payoff feel less distinctive than the relationship that led to it.
Chemistry makes the curves count
Katie shows the romance writing at its strongest. Her slower attachment suits her quieter manner, while her work as a doctor gives her sweetness a practical, determined side. Spending time with her concerns makes intimacy feel like part of a relationship. Ellen brings the familiarity of a contact already woven into the protagonist's life. Both women have a place in the investigation, so getting closer ties desire to the world that also puts them in danger.
The mercenary fantasy is generous to its leading man. Beautiful women give him plenty of attention, and some advances arrive so readily that they strain the book's efforts to make attraction believable. The cast also shares a fairly narrow body ideal: large boobs and carefully sculpted curves dominate. Personality and attitude provide more variety than proportions do, and the writing needs those differences to keep the women interesting.
Corporate power, distrust and the protagonist's damaged past put pressure on these connections. The thriller gives sex emotional stakes, though lighter banter sometimes drains tension from a dangerous situation. A few encounters also interrupt the plot awkwardly, as though the investigation has agreed to wait outside.
Good-looking sex, familiar staging
Detailed 3D renders and short pre-rendered animations carry the presentation, with movement appearing outside sex scenes too. Lighting and backgrounds make the city feel coherent and expensive-looking, giving the nudity a convincing setting. Explicit content is included in the Steam purchase without an uncensor patch. Most sex scenes can be declined or skipped, so choosing to pursue a woman also means choosing whether to take the relationship into bed.
Animation adds appeal, but the women and the build-up do more to make the sex desirable than the direction does. Loops can look slow or stiff, while recurring conventional poses and camera angles limit variety. A smoothly animated encounter cannot disguise how often the book returns to familiar staging. Some scene options give you a say in the encounter; the action itself is a sequence to watch.
Licensed music helps sell both the city and its intimate moments. Dialogue is unvoiced, leaving the writing and renders to carry chemistry through conversations. That can suit the visual novel's measured pace, but a quiet stretch has no vocal performance to keep it alive. The mood is persuasive at its best; lingering on a short loop can make its repetition hard to ignore.
Choices shape who wants you

Relationships track both a score and a lust value, while a hidden anger stat affects other reactions. Dialogue and behaviour can open encounters or options within them. Separating approval from sexual interest gives the choices useful texture: a good relationship and a willing lover need not be the same thing. Keeping a connection professional or pursuing it changes what you see, giving the romances more involvement than a fixed sequence of scenes.
The investigation remains strongly directed. Relationships and branches can change, but the protagonist has commitments of his own, including protective impulses that a harsh response will not necessarily override. His story keeps moving along its intended course. The advertised impact of choices needs to be understood within that boundary; you are influencing this mercenary's relationships, with limited room to reinvent him.
Getting the scene you want can require some tedious bookkeeping. Missing a requirement may send you back to an earlier save, then through conversations you already know. The replay theatre makes unlocked encounters easy to revisit without their build-up. Hidden bonus renders offer another optional collection for anyone who wants more images; the main story works without hunting them all down.
Seven chapters, then another purchase

At the October 2026 check, the Steam release contained chapters 1–7 at a regular US list price of $9.99. Those chapters deliver sex and developed relationships, then end on a cliffhanger. Book One is a completed release, but it leaves the investigation and some romances waiting for their final resolution.
At that same check, Book Two was available as $9.99 Steam DLC containing chapters 8–15, the final installment. Finishing the story requires that second purchase; its scenes and endings are outside this review's score. The optional $2.99 Game Guide helps with paths and unlocks. It is not an adult-content patch, and the sex scenes do not depend on buying it.
Book One offers reasonable value for its art, encounters and replay options. Chasing every unlock demands patience as well: repeated branches can turn a promising romance into an exercise in optimizing points. Steam also lists a Mac version with a compatibility warning for Catalina and later. Check that it suits your Mac before paying.
Verdict
Book One is worth buying for the chemistry that makes its sex feel earned. Katie's slower attachment, Ellen's established connection and the city's atmosphere give the nudity an appeal the animations could not sustain alone. Familiar staging, occasional stiffness and opaque scene requirements hold it back, but the romances provide a strong reason to stay with the thriller. Its seven chapters offer good value and plenty of attraction. The cliffhanger remains a substantial catch: the story has a released conclusion in Book Two, and you will need a separate purchase to reach it.

Questions before you play
Does Book One include the whole story?
No. Book One contains chapters 1–7 and ends on a cliffhanger. Book Two is the released final installment, sold as DLC containing chapters 8–15.
Do I need a patch or the Game Guide for sex scenes?
Book One includes explicit content without an uncensor patch. The Game Guide offers optional help with choices and unlocks; it does not add required adult scenes. Its price at the October 2026 check was $2.99.
Do choices change access to intimacy?
Yes. Relationship scores and lust values can open scenes and options within encounters, while a hidden anger stat affects reactions. The investigation remains strongly directed, so you can influence relationships without having complete control over the protagonist or plot.
Are the encounters animated, interactive or voiced?
The game combines rendered stills with short pre-rendered animations. Some encounters offer choices, and the theatre lets you replay unlocked sex scenes. Dialogue is unvoiced; licensed music supplies atmosphere.
Does finishing the story require a subscription?
No Patreon subscription is needed for the Steam edition. At the October 2026 check, Book One had a regular US list price of $9.99, with the final Book Two sold as a one-time $9.99 DLC purchase requiring Book One. The base purchase does not include those final chapters.
Which desktop platforms are listed, and does it work on a modern Mac?
Steam lists Windows, macOS and Linux. Its Mac listing carries a compatibility warning for macOS Catalina and later, so check suitability before buying. A listed Mac build does not guarantee support for your current hardware.
