Jake Spade is a jaded private investigator whose client's apparent suicide draws him into temptation, violence and manipulation. Paid sex introduces the fantasy, and desire stays close to the investigation: a woman can be a lover, a source of information and a complication in the same case. That is Depraved Awakening's strongest hook. An established adult man and women with tangled lives give it an interesting starting point.
The game is eager to get Jake into bed, sometimes more eager than it is to make the encounter matter. At its best, sex gains heat from a relationship the case has complicated. Elsewhere, another naked body breaks the investigation's momentum. The darker scenes demand a careful distinction between seduction and abuse, and the writing does not always earn the sophistication its noir mood suggests.
Carli makes desire part of the case

Carli starts as an escort Jake visits, then becomes his client and an ally in the investigation. Professional intimacy has room to become trust, and their work supplies reasons to meet that survive the next sex scene. She gives Jake a reason to pay attention even with her clothes on. The attraction works because wanting her and needing answers belong to the same conversation.
Christina, a spa masseuse, is more openly playful. Her flirtation has personality, even when the script substitutes another horny remark for an exchange that might reveal more about her. Mi-do's unhappy marriage adds vulnerability and a rescue fantasy, but rushing her into intimacy shortchanges that premise. Judy is Jake's former stepdaughter; that family history brings a power imbalance. These women offer distinct sources of attraction; hurried intimacy and repeated crude talk too often flatten those differences.
Coercion gives the fantasy an ugly streak

Prostitution, domination, BDSM, manipulation and aphrodisiac drugs all shape the erotic tone. Consensual kink sits alongside sexual contact with sleeping women and other sexual violence, so a taste for BDSM will not tell you whether this material appeals. Coercion is part of the game's encounters, not just a menace hovering over the case. Drugs that manufacture desire are a cheap shortcut around the work of building intimacy, and they do nothing to make consent convincing.
The ugliest scenes sometimes hand the viewpoint to a villain humiliating a woman who has barely been developed. The spectacle can feel gratuitous: it supplies degradation faster than it supplies a reason to care. Jake can become corrupt, giving the player's choices a moral direction, but the game recognises dangerous people more readily than it examines his own behaviour. That weak moral footing limits the appeal even when the mood is gripping.
Attractive stills, stiff animation

Bodies and lighting do much of the seduction. Faces are less dependable: oversized eyes and awkward kissing expressions can make an intimate moment look faintly alarming. The animation often rocks between poses rather than giving an encounter convincing continuous movement. Jake's hidden face reinforces the player's viewpoint but leaves little room for face-to-face performance. Noir music is a strong asset, and sparse effects help the action; the sex itself has neither voices nor accompanying effects to give it much presence. Stills and staging carry scenes that motion and sound struggle to sell.
Rendered stills and short animation loops carry the sex scenes. Scripted choices can change the illustrations or encounter variants, so there is more to revisit than one unchanging sequence. Several partners and different situations supply variety, including affectionate and degrading encounters. You choose among authored branches; there is no freely controlled camera or physical sex simulation.
Lust scores turn attraction into arithmetic

Relationship scores and Lust ratings determine which choices and encounters open up. A reply can affect a woman's response, while a branch can change the case or ending. Rewind lets you test another answer and see its immediate effect, making experimentation practical. Different partners, branches and unseen scenes give you reasons to return beyond simply repeating the same story.
The catch is that desire soon becomes a points problem. A plausible answer may fail to meet a later option's requirements, and mutually exclusive encounters force collectors into repeat runs. Manual saves are useful insurance against an opaque gate, while the gallery makes unlocked adult scenes easy to revisit. More seriously, some encounters let you choose how sex proceeds without letting you refuse it. Picking a variation offers less agency than deciding whether to have sex in the first place.
The case closes before the relationships catch up

The investigation has tension, action and a brisk pace, and gives the women reasons to matter beyond their sex scenes. Viewpoint shifts can weaken the mystery by revealing danger before Jake discovers it. The villains are also less convincing than the atmosphere: their corruption scheme leans on convenient sexual temptation, and the final stretch wraps up before the relationships and moral turns receive enough attention. A completed ending is welcome. Here, it can still feel like the game has hurried you out the door.
At the October 2026 check, the US Steam base game cost $9.99 and included the adult scenes, with no separate adult DLC purchase required. The story ends within that purchase, without later episodes to buy. Much of the value lies in exploring branches and repeat encounters; sticking to one route leaves a thinner purchase. Steam lists Windows and Linux, plus a legacy Mac version explicitly incompatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina and newer. That Mac label should not be read as current Mac support.
Verdict
Depraved Awakening is worth buying for its detective fantasy and Carli's place in it. The case gives her intimacy a purpose, the music gives the danger atmosphere, and consequential branches make another run worthwhile. Its finished story is another welcome part of the Steam package. The compromises are substantial: stiff animation and blunt dialogue flatten some of the heat, opaque gates turn attraction into point chasing, and the rushed finish underserves its relationships. Gratuitous degradation and non-consensual sex narrow its appeal further. The fantasy is persuasive enough to recommend, but it offers more temptation than emotional or moral finesse.
What works
- +Women whose ties to the case give the detective fantasy substance
- +Branching encounters, rewind and a gallery reward different choices
- +Strong noir atmosphere and a finished story in one purchase
Drawbacks
- −Coercion and gratuitous degradation undermine the romantic appeal
- −Stiff animation, crude dialogue and opaque route gates blunt the payoff
Questions before you play
Is Depraved Awakening a complete game?
Yes. The Steam purchase includes the finished story and branching endings, with no additional episode DLC listed at the October 2026 check. City of Broken Dreamers and its books are separate releases.
Does the Steam edition need an adult patch?
No. The base game includes explicit sex. No additional adult patch or adult DLC purchase is needed for the content reviewed here.
What can you choose during sex scenes?
Some encounters offer scripted choices that change the illustrated sequence or variation. Scenes use rendered stills and short animation loops. There is no freely controlled camera or sex simulation.
Does it include sexual assault or encounters you cannot refuse?
Yes. The game includes sexual contact with sleeping women, coercion and sexual violence. Some encounters offer different sexual choices without an option to refuse. Its BDSM themes do not cover the full range of consent issues.
Can you replay unlocked sex scenes?
Yes, through the scene gallery. Different decisions and relationship scores can reveal other scenes and outcomes, so one run does not provide the whole collection. Rewind and manual saves help you explore the branches.
Will the Steam version run on a current Mac?
The listed Mac release is incompatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina and newer, so the Mac label does not establish current Mac support. Steam also lists Windows and Linux versions.
