Sora 2 and Sora 2 Pro: retired OpenAI API

Sora 2 and Sora 2 Pro are retired: OpenAI shut down both models and the Videos API on September 24, 2026. New integrations cannot use them, and OpenAI lists no one-to-one replacement API. Their historical appeal was generating video with audio from text or image references, useful for concepts and scene planning within the service’s content restrictions. Those restrictions allowed only material suitable for under-18 audiences, ruling out explicit sex scenes. Retained guides and sample code are historical references, not evidence of a working service. If you already have exported clips, keep their provenance and check the terms that applied when they were generated before reuse or redistribution.

Commercial use & license

Retained exports remain subject to the proprietary service terms that applied when they were generated. The shutdown notice grants no new reuse or redistribution rights.

Adult content rules

There is no new production setup for these models. Replace calls to the retired Videos API and check the replacement service’s access requirements and content policy.
