AnimateDiff adds motion to compatible image-diffusion models, making it useful when you want to animate the look of a personalized checkpoint. MotionLoRA controls camera movement, while SparseCtrl uses RGB images or sketches to guide animation. The flexibility comes with components to match and maintain, plus acknowledged limits such as flicker and uneven general text-to-video quality. SD 1.5 and the SDXL beta have different setups; a character LoRA loading in the same interface does not guarantee compatibility with the motion module. Commercial use also needs clarification: the project states academic use, and the motion weights, base checkpoint and adapters have separate terms. The Apache 2.0 code license alone does not settle those questions.
Commercial use & license
The code is Apache 2.0, but the README also states academic use. Resolve that scope and check the separate motion-weight, base-model and LoRA terms before commercial use.
Adult content rules
No blanket permission for adult content or commercial use is established for the combined base checkpoint, motion module and adapters.
What you need
Use the main branch for SD 1.5 or the sdxl branch for the SDXL beta, with matching motion modules, base checkpoints and adapters. The SDXL example cites about 13 GB VRAM for 16 frames at its recommended high resolutions; needs vary with the checkpoint and settings. Review the project's academic-use scope.
Ranks are recommendations for the task described, based on reviewed documentation. Model ranks cover non-explicit development work. We have not run practical benchmarks. Check content policies and commercial terms separately. How the ranks work →
