Hunyuan3D 2.1 offers a useful local starting point for prop experiments: generate geometry from an image, then tackle PBR materials with a separate paint model. That split lets a team assess the mesh before committing to the heavier texture stage, while published weights and training code leave room to adapt the workflow. Start with an approved reference and a simple prop; a polished surface says little about whether an asset will deform well or run comfortably in your game. The full pipeline needs substantially more VRAM than shape generation alone. Its territorial exclusions and acceptable-use rules also need to fit the project before you commit to the tool.
Commercial use & license
Tencent Hunyuan 3D 2.1 Community License. Its territorial exclusion covers both the model and generated outputs: use, distribution and display in the EU, UK or South Korea are not licensed. Licensees with more than 1 million monthly active users across their products and services in the month before its June 13, 2025 release need Tencent approval. AUP and distribution obligations also apply.
Adult content rules
Local use remains subject to the AUP, including prohibitions on exploiting or harming minors and bypassing Tencent's safeguards. Its legal and regional-ethics restrictions give no blanket permission for adult content. The license excludes the EU, UK and South Korea; hosted Tencent services need separate policy checks.
What you need
The official README lists 10 GB VRAM for shape generation, 21 GB for texture generation and 29 GB for both. These are reported setup figures, not a guarantee for every configuration.
Ranks are recommendations for the task described, based on reviewed documentation. Model ranks cover non-explicit development work. We have not run practical benchmarks. Check content policies and commercial terms separately. How the ranks work →
