Pixal3D is worth evaluating when a character design or prop needs to stay close to its reference image. Its explicit pixel-to-3D alignment is the distinctive draw, and the current TRELLIS.2-based implementation generates geometry and PBR textures with a low-VRAM loading option. Inspect the back, texture seams and in-game silhouette: a convincing front view leaves plenty unresolved. Deformation and recurring character consistency still need careful work and an authored source. Review component licenses before production use. Keep the current release separate from the older paper implementation when comparing results, and record the code revision and checkpoints.
Commercial use & license
Pixal3D's own code and weights are MIT. The current pipeline adds Meta's custom DINOv3 license and BRIA RMBG-2.0's noncommercial terms; BRIA commercial use requires a separate agreement. The documented TRELLIS.2 installation also includes NVIDIA rendering dependencies licensed for noncommercial research/evaluation. Pixal3D's DINOv2 notice does not describe its current DINOv3 dependency.
Adult content rules
Pixal3D's NOTICE says the project does not support non-consensual sexual content, sexualized depictions of real people, content involving minors, harassment, impersonation or privacy violations. It explicitly treats this as responsible-use guidance without changing MIT terms. The license does not establish rights to reference images, people's likenesses or third-party assets. Dependencies and hosted services have separate terms; no blanket adult-content permission is established.
What you need
NVIDIA CUDA setup following TRELLIS.2, whose base guide specifies Linux-tested code and 24GB VRAM. Install Pixal3D's added dependencies, including NATTEN 0.21.0 and utils3d. Standard and low-VRAM modes default to 1536 and 1024 respectively; the latter loads models on demand. The default BRIA background weights require gated Hugging Face access. A universal Pixal3D VRAM minimum remains unverified.
