SAM 3D Objects reconstructs objects selected by masks in a photograph, estimating shape, appearance and placement. For a game team, its clearest use is exploring props and room layouts from photographic reference. The quick-start exports Gaussian splats, which need a compatible renderer; the code also supports mesh output. Neither route guarantees clean UVs, collisions, an animation rig or acceptable runtime performance. Plan for conversion and asset review before anything reaches a game. The official setup also needs a substantial GPU, and the default requirements include a dependency with explicit commercial and pornographic-use restrictions. Resolve those terms and use photographs you have permission to reconstruct.
Commercial use & license
Meta's code and checkpoints use the royalty-free SAM License; redistributed SAM materials and derivatives must include it. Legal and trade controls apply. The default environment also installs SMPL-X 0.1.28, whose separate license prohibits commercial use, including commercial artifact production.
Adult content rules
The SAM License has no explicit adult-content ban. The default dependency SMPL-X 0.1.28 explicitly prohibits pornographic purposes and generating pornographic material; that restriction applies to SMPL-X. Reference-image rights and consent remain your responsibility. Hosted policies are unverified.
What you need
Official setup requires 64-bit Linux, an NVIDIA GPU with at least 32 GB of VRAM, and approved Hugging Face checkpoint access with authenticated download. Preserve masks and conversion settings. Access approval and the account flow have not been tested here.
Ranks are recommendations for the task described, based on reviewed documentation. Model ranks cover non-explicit development work. We have not run practical benchmarks. Check content policies and commercial terms separately. How the ranks work →
